1. Global Warming’s Four Indias

Analysis of the Climate Change in the Indian Mind, 2022 data identified four distinct segments (also referred to as “audiences”) within the Indian public: the Alarmed (54% of the Indian population), Concerned (29%), Cautious (11%), and Disengaged (7%). These four climate audiences differ in their levels of global warming knowledge, worry and risk perception, policy support, and engagement.

A large majority of Indians – four in five – are either Alarmed or Concerned (82%) while only one in five are either Cautious or Disengaged (18%). These segments are described in detail throughout this report.
