About eight in ten Latinos (81%) either “strongly support” (42%) or “somewhat support” (39%) requiring fossil fuel companies to pay a carbon tax and use the money to reduce other taxes (such as income tax) by an equal amount. About half of Spanish-language Latinos (49%) “strongly support” requiring fossil fuel companies to pay such a tax.
By contrast, a smaller majority of non-Latinos supports a carbon tax (69%).
B.3.2. Half of Latinos “strongly support” diverse climate-friendly energy policies.
A majority of Latinos say they “strongly support” funding more research into renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power (55%). About half “strongly support” regulating carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse gas, as a pollutant (50%) or providing tax rebates for people who purchase energy-efficient vehicles or solar panels (48%).
Non-Latinos are less likely to strongly support these policies.
