Climate Change in the American Mind: October 2017

5. Can Humans Reduce Global Warming?

5.1. A majority of Americans think humans can reduce global warming; but few are optimistic that we will.

Nearly half of Americans (48%) say humans could reduce global warming, but it’s unclear at this point whether we will do what is necessary.

Only 5% say humans can and will successfully reduce global warming. One in four (25%) say we won’t because people are unwilling to change their behavior, and 15% say humans can’t reduce global warming even if it is happening.
