Student workers help fulfill the mission of YPCCC by providing critical support to our staff team. YPCCC jobs are intended for current Yale University students, both grad and undergrad. Work study academic-year positions are available for eligible students at the Yale School of the Environment. Summer positions are not work-study eligible.

The Yale Program on Climate Change Communication (YPCCC) invites applications for the position of Partnerships Research Assistant.
Based at the Yale School of the Environment, we conduct scientific research on public climate change knowledge, attitudes, policy preferences, and behavior, and the underlying psychological, cultural, and political factors that influence them. We also engage the public in climate change science and solutions, in partnership with governments, media organizations, companies, and civil society, and with a daily, national radio program, Yale Climate Connections.
YPCCC’s Partnerships Program grows the capacity of the climate movement to conduct strategic communication campaigns and transformational organizing. The Partnerships Program helps organizations understand audiences, use tactics and tools based on YPCCC’s cutting-edge research, and run experiments to refine strategies. We work with more than 200 groups ranging from environmental justice organizations to foundations. These relationships vary from short consultations to in-depth partnerships in which we help build organization capacity for data-driven campaigns.
Position focus:
The Partnerships Research Assistant will provide outreach and project support for the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication’s external partnerships team. In this role, the Research Assistant will conduct market research, develop outreach and funding materials (case studies, blogs), conduct webinars to forge new partnerships, and support calls and project support for YPCCC’s existing diverse partners.
Key responsibilities:
Support the Partnerships strategy and consulting with diverse climate organizations, ranging from large institutions to small grassroots groups.
Develop outreach and marketing materials for the Partnership program including case studies, blogs, presentations, and key messages.
Develop tools for partner organizations to run digital and field experiments, such as message test blueprints.
Test and deploy new tools for partner organizations.
Support tracking our success through the Salesforce Constituent Relationship Management system.
Further develop materials for consulting and training in climate communication strategy, tactics, and tools to improve the communication and engagement capacity of partner organizations and the broader climate change community.
With the YPCCC research team, help assess the utility of new YPCCC research products, tools and data.
Desired experience:
Experience in communications, marketing, journalism, consulting, or issue or political campaigns, including field and/or digital campaigns.
Experience with online message testing using social media platforms such as Facebook.
Passion for building a more effective and equitable climate change community.
Required skills and abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication, including public speaking;
Ability to set priorities and multi-task;
Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse partners;
Demonstrated ability to work with a team, as well as on one’s own;
Ability to work from a remote office, with Google Drive, Office 365, Salesforce, Notion (or similar project management tool), and join Zoom calls.

The YPCCC Partnership Research Assistant is a 30-40 hour a week position.

This role will support the development and execution of a Yale Center for Environmental Communication speaker series that brings in inspiring practitioners of environmental communication that 1) model how to build public and political will to address environmental challenges and 2) equips attendees with the skills to engage in strategic communication themselves to solve environmental problems. Potential topics for the series will include: transformational organizing; closing the climate communication gap in Black media; global climate change journalism, particularly in high GHG-emitting countries like India, China and Brazil; leveraging social media influences on behalf of the climate; implications of climate change for labor; or translating cutting edge environmental scholarship for a public interested in solutions. The student will contribute to shaping the series’ direction and have the opportunity to pursue topics of personal interest. The ideal candidate is comfortable driving projects independently, has strong event management and event logistics experience, especially with remotely-conducted and hosted events (i.e., via Zoom) and communicates effectively in a hybrid working environment. This student will shape webinar topics, identify and recruit speakers and moderators, serve as the main point of contact with experts in various fields, market the series to internal and external audiences, and synthesize key takeaways from each event for publication on the YPCCC website. Preferred but not required: a background in environmental affairs.
Hrs per week: 5-8, hourly pay commensurate with experience.
