This role will support the development and execution of a Yale Center for Environmental Communication speaker series that brings in inspiring practitioners of environmental communication that 1) model how to build public and political will to address environmental challenges and 2) equips attendees with the skills to engage in strategic communication themselves to solve environmental problems. Potential topics for the series will include: transformational organizing; closing the climate communication gap in Black media; global climate change journalism, particularly in high GHG-emitting countries like India, China and Brazil; leveraging social media influences on behalf of the climate; implications of climate change for labor; or translating cutting edge environmental scholarship for a public interested in solutions. The student will contribute to shaping the series’ direction and have the opportunity to pursue topics of personal interest. Please see examples of past YCEC-hosted events at: https://climatecommunication.yale.edu/news-events/category/videos-events/
The ideal candidate is comfortable driving projects independently, has strong event management and event logistics experience, especially with remotely-conducted and hosted events (i.e., via Zoom) and communicates effectively in a hybrid working environment. This student will shape webinar topics, identify and recruit speakers and moderators, serve as the main point of contact with experts in various fields, market the series to internal and external audiences, and synthesize key takeaways from each event for publication on the YPCCC website. Preferred but not required: a background in environmental affairs.
Hrs per week: 5-8, hourly pay commensurate with experience.

The Yale Program on Climate Change Communication (YPCCC) invites applications for the position of Partnerships Research Assistant.
Based at the Yale School of the Environment, we conduct scientific research on public climate change knowledge, attitudes, policy preferences, and behavior, and the underlying psychological, cultural, and political factors that influence them. We also engage the public in climate change science and solutions, in partnership with governments, media organizations, companies, and civil society, and with a daily, national radio program, Yale Climate Connections. YPCCC’s Partnerships Program grows the capacity of the climate movement to conduct strategic communication campaigns and transformational organizing. The Partnerships Program helps organizations understand audiences, use tactics and tools based on YPCCC’s cutting-edge research, and run experiments to refine strategies. We work with more than 200 groups ranging from environmental justice organizations to foundations. These relationships vary from short consultations to in-depth partnerships in which we help build organization capacity for data-driven campaigns.
