Data Scientist/Modeler

The Yale Program on Climate Change Communication is looking for students (preference to Masters or PhD level) with skills in data science, modeling, and machine learning (using R) to help develop models that support more effective climate communication.

5-30 hrs a week (summer position with the potential for staying on through the 2020-2021 academic year) 

Responsibilities:

  • Research and develop machine learning models to support climate communication.
  • Provide model development documentation and code to meet project milestones.
  • Work with our data science and partnership team to determine additional data and modeling requirements.
  • Develop pipeline and workflow processes for data preparation, modeling, testing, validation, visualization, and communication.

Desired skills:

  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Experience with data science projects.
  • Experience with natural language processing.
  • Experience with data visualization.
  • Self-starter, scrappy, and ability to work fairly independently through the data processing, development, testing, validation, and documentation process.
  • Willingness to abide by team standards for code, documentation, etc.
  • Willingness to check-in regularly via Zoom, Slack, or Skype calls and to work as part of a collaborative team.
