The Yale Program on Climate Change Communication (YPCCC) invites applications for the position of Research Data Analyst.
Based at the Yale School of the Environment, we conduct scientific research on public climate change knowledge, attitudes, policy preferences, and behavior, and the underlying psychological, cultural, and political factors that influence them. We also engage the public in climate change science and solutions, in partnership with governments, media organizations, companies, and civil society, and with a daily, national radio program, Yale Climate Connections.
Position Focus:
The Research Data Analyst will manage, analyze, and visualize scientific data as part of a research team on climate change communication.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute data management systems for research projects in geography, climate change psychology, communication, risk analysis, and other areas in collaboration with an interdisciplinary and international team of scholars
- Manage, maintain, and update large survey datasets in R; prepare data for public release
- Plan and update interactive web-based visualization tools with new data, geographies, and research content (see https://climatecommunication.yale.edu/visualizations-data/ycom-us/ for example)
- Process datasets for research and conduct quality assessments
- Conduct statistical analyses, including descriptive statistics and regression modeling
- Manage, analyze, and create geospatial datasets; design and implement interactive online maps
- Document data processing and workflows
Required Experience
- A Masters degree in geography, computer science, climate or environmental science, management, or policy, or a related field.
- Experience designing and conducting independent research.
- Experience with basic statistics.
- At least three years of experience programming with R or Python.
- Experience working with spatial data and maps.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in R programming and data processing.
- Strong understanding of geospatial data and analytics required.
- Must be familiar with geospatial data tools such as GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS or QGIS) or programming languages.
- Must have superior technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to contribute as an interdisciplinary team member.
- Must have strong documentation and communication skills.
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with researchers across organizational structures and across knowledge domains.
