Partner with YPCCC

YPCCC’s Partnerships Program builds the capacity of organizations to conduct strategic communication campaigns to build public and political will for climate action. We work with diverse organizations – from local environmental justice groups to international climate NGOs, governments, companies, and foundations. We help organizations clarify their communication goals, identify and understand their audiences, use tactics and tools based on YPCCC’s research, and conduct their own studies.

How we help

Strategic Consulting: Diverse organizations use YPCCC insights, data, and tools to inform their strategic decisions and develop tailored communication campaigns. For example, governments have used our research to develop policies aligned with the priorities of their constituents and programs to engage them in climate solutions. Foundations have used the Yale Climate Opinion Maps to inform their funding strategies. Businesses have used our insights to identify potential customers. And nonprofit organizations have used our research to engage potential members, donors, voters, and others.

Membership and Stakeholder Surveys: Organizations often survey their members and supporters to understand which issues to work on and how to better engage and mobilize them. Our Partnerships Program helps organizations design and implement internal studies.

Messaging Best Practices and Message Testing: One of the first rules of effective communication is to know your audience. YPCCC’s Six Americas segmentation tool and the Yale Climate Opinion Maps help organizations identify and understand their target audiences. We advise organizations on communication strategies and best practices. We also help communicators conduct message tests to identify the right messages, messengers, and platforms for maximum effect and cost efficiency.

Microtargeting Models: In April 2020 there were approximately 79 million Americans Alarmed about climate change and about 20 million “definitely” willing to join a campaign to convince elected officials to take climate action. This represents an enormous potential climate movement—if recruited, empowered, organized, and deployed. Millions more Americans are persuadable or simply need basic climate information. YPCCC has developed microtargeting models for Facebook, Instagram, and the Catalist and TargetSmart voter files that help organizations find and communicate with these audiences.

Six Americas microtargeting models on Facebook and Instagram (for nonprofits)

We have developed microtargeting models (lookalike audiences) that identify most of the Six Americas and other important audiences. Partners typically use the models to identify audiences for targeted ads, recruit new activists, amplify content, or to test how different audiences respond to different messages. The models are available to nonprofits in the climate and social change movements and the use of models is subject to approval from the Partnerships team and conditions of a memorandum of understanding (MOU).
