This map shows the difference from the national average (71%) of people in India in each district who say they have personally experienced an extreme heatwave in the last 12 months. Colors on the map show district-level variations in green and purple that reflect the percentage points above (green) and below (purple) the national average. Across districts, personal experience with extreme heatwaves ranges from 50% in Malappuram, Kerala (-20.6 percentage points from the national average) to 83% in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh (+11.7 percentage points from the national average). More people in northern India report experiencing severe heatwaves than people in southern India. Data: India Climate Opinion Maps, 2025.
