Social Team: Social media producer

 5-10 hrs a week (2020-2021 academic year) 

The folks that make our Facebook and Twitter what it is. YPCCC research is relevant to many categories of current events, from renewable energy to extreme weather, and our social media producers help put the news of the day in context.

Tasks:

  • Drafting 3-5 FB posts and tweets per assigned day for YPCCC online properties
  • Creating graphics using Canva
  • Responding to breaking news and keeping an eye on the latest climate change stories

Preferred Skills:

  • Attention to detail and strong writing skills
  • Experience managing a Facebook page or professional Twitter account is a plus
  • Awareness of best practices and trends in social media content
  • Digital design and data visualization / infographic creation experience
  • Ideal for somebody with less time on their hands who still wants to contribute to the YPCCC program. Those who are plugged into the news on climate change and eager to help show how our work relates. Digital novices who want to learn by doing.

 

Social Team: Instagram Producer

 5-10 hrs a week (2020-2021 academic year) 

The folks that make our Instagram what it is. YPCCC research is relevant to many categories of current events, from renewable energy to extreme weather, and our Instagram producers help put the news of the day in front of Instagram’s young audience.

      • Tasks:
        • Drafting 1 Instagram post per assigned days (Saturday and Sunday) for YPCCC online properties
        • Creating graphics using Canva 
        • Creating Instagram stories once a week (2-5 frames each)
        • Responding to breaking news and keeping an eye on the latest climate change stories
        • Creating Insta stories on a regular basis
      • Preferred Skills:
        • Attention to detail and strong writing skills
        • Experience managing an Instagram page or professional social media account is a plus
        • Awareness of best practices and trends in social media content
        • Digital design and data visualization / infographic creation experience preferred 
      • Ideal for somebody who is interested in social media management, data visualization, journalism, design and/or content creation. 

 

Social Team:  Yale Climate Connections Social Media Manager 

5-10 hrs a week (2020-2021 academic year) 

Yale Climate Connections is a nonpartisan, multimedia service providing daily broadcast radio programming and original web-based reporting about climate change. We’re looking for a student to promote the service on social media and engage the current audience with an eye toward growth and deeper interaction. 

      • Tasks (to be divided and assigned):
        • Source and/or design images for each episode, for use on social media and the YCC site
        • Develop and maintain reporting on social media performance
      • Preferred Skills:
        • Interest in content marketing, photography, or graphic design
        • Experience managing social media accounts a plus
        • Familiarity with image sourcing and editing a plus
      • Ideal for individuals looking to further develop the YCC brand online — especially those with an interest in content marketing, environmental storytelling, or non-profit journalism. Requires more time and responsibility than a standard producer role. 

 

Social Team:  Digital Ads Assistant

5 hrs a week (2020-2021 academic year) 

Digital advertising is one of the most crucial tactics of marketing for online publishers and non-profits. It’s also a very promising avenue for testing out some of our research on attitudes toward climate change. We’re looking for somebody to help produce ads to advance YPCCC goals on both fronts.

      • Tasks:
        • Drafting Facebook or Google Ads at the discretion of the YPCCC Ads Leads
          • Experiments may include testing content to different audiences, or different messages or images
        • Meeting on Zoom for a 1-hour block each week to design, draft, and deploy ads
        • Helping maintain a calendar of upcoming ads & tests
      • Preferred Skills:
        • Attention to detail and strong writing skills
        • Experience managing a Google or Facebook Ads account, or a professional Facebook or Twitter presence, is a plus
        • Awareness of best practices and trends in social media content
        • Marketing or digital comms experience a big plus
      • Ideal for detail-oriented, metrics-driven writers who like to explore data. Folks who are looking to make use of a fast growing ad platform online for research purposes. Those interested in digital marketing.

Data Team: Data Scientist

This role will work with our team of researchers on data management, processing, and modeling, statistical analyses, visualization, and mapping of public social and physical datasets as well as those gathered by the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.

  • Tasks
    • Obtain, clean, document, and prepare data for modeling;
    • Develop software to model and map environmental opinions and behavior;
    • Conduct analyses and construct predictive models;
    • Participate in several highly collaborative, interdisciplinary research teams;
    • Develop visualizations for research and public outreach.
  • Required Skills
    • Programming proficiency in at least one language (e.g. R, Python, JavaScript, SQL, SPSS syntax)
    • Organization, writing, and technical documentation
  • Preferred skills
    • Experience with Tableau
    • Experience with statistics and modeling (R, SPSS, SAS, MatLab)
    • Data and database management (SQL, NoSQL, Google Cloud, AWS, GitHub)
    • Experience with web development, design, and interactive graphics
  • Ideal for:
    • Data-driven, organized workers with an interest in helping to support analyze and visualize our research.
