Social Media Manager

This role is established to be both a partner to our social media manager and the chief editor on our post graphics. This role is ideal for first-year YSE students who are interested in helping develop YPCCC’s brand and identity.

Tasks:

  • Responsible for oversight of graphics drafted by the student team
  • Suggest edits to post, image, and video graphics drafted by student team members
  • Ensure adherence to and guides development of YPCCC brand standards
  • Work collaboratively with social media manager to help coordinate the YPCCC social team

Preferred Skills:

  • An eye for detail and a knack for simple, effective design
  • Experience in design, comms, or social media role a big plus
  • Familiarity with brand design principles a plus

Ideal for:

Visually-minded communicators who are passionate about editing, with an interest in growing as managers and leaders.

Deputy Social Media Manager

This role is established to be both a partner to our Deputy Social Media Manager and the chief editor on our posts. This role is ideal for second-year YSE students who are interested in helping develop YPCCC’s brand and identity. We are looking to hire two Deputy Social Media Managers for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Tasks:

  • Responsible for oversight and edits of social media posts drafted by the student team
  • Suggest copy edits to team’s posts. Alongside Deputy Social Media Manager, helps edit images, videos, and graphics drafted by student team members when needed.
  • Ensure adherence to and guides development of YPCCC brand standards
  • Work with content creators to ensure the YPCCC brand voice is accurate.
  • Work collaboratively with Deputy Social Media Manager to help coordinate the YPCCC social team

Preferred Skills:

  • Writing, copywriting, and/or editing experience

Social Media Content Creator

This team suggests and drafts posts about climate change for large social media audiences on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. YPCCC research is relevant to many categories of current events, from renewable energy to extreme weather, and our social media producers help put the news of the day in context.

Tasks:

  • Draft 3-5 social media posts and tweets per assigned day for YPCCC online properties
  • Create graphics using Canva
  • Respond to breaking news and keep an eye on the latest climate change stories

Preferred Skills:

  • Attention to detail and strong writing skills
  • Experience managing a Facebook page, Instagram page, or professional Twitter account is a plus
  • Awareness of best practices and trends in social media content
  • Digital design and data visualization / infographic creation experience

Ideal for:

Somebody with less time on their hands who still wants to contribute to the YPCCC program. Those who are plugged into the news on climate change and eager to help show how our work relates. Digital novices who want to learn by doing.

Instagram Content Creator

We’re looking for a team member to help develop our presence on IG.

Tasks:

  • Develop IG posts, and stories around our research
  • Maintain a regular posting schedule, particularly with stories

  • Previous experience managing brand Instagram a plus

Community Manager

YPCCC maintains a presence on multiple digital platforms, from Instagram to Twitter. We are looking for someone to help create and foster digital relationships on these channels.

Tasks:

  • Monitor and manage comments on the program’s Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages.
  • Respond to, and maintain relationships, with well-known figures in the climate space, especially on Twitter.
  • Reshare and repost relevant content. 
  • Proactively share relevant research and resources with leading climate communicators.

Preferred Skills:

  • Attention to detail and strong writing skills
  • In depth knowledge of the climate space and key figures within it
  • Awareness of best practices and trends in social media content

Hrs per week: 5-8

TikTok Content Creator

We’re looking for a team member to help create, develop, and maintain a presence on TikTok.

Tasks & Projects:

  • Develop a TikTok account and strategy
  • Create posts and/or live broadcasts based on our research
  • Maintain a regular posting schedule
  • Connect with other climate figures on the platform
  • Create and update reporting

Preferred Skills:

  • Graphic design, video editing or production, and/or on-camera experience
  • Previous experience managing brand social media channel a plus

Ideal for:

Visually-minded communicators interested in exploring how we can tell the story of climate change through TikTok. Enterprising climate advocates interested in helping communicators better understand the platform’s role in climate.

Strategic Environmental Communication Speaker Series Coordinator

This role will support the development and execution of a Yale Center for Environmental Communication speaker series that brings in inspiring practitioners of environmental communication that 1) model how to build public and political will to address environmental challenges and 2) equips students with the skills to engage in strategic communication themselves to solve environmental problems.  Potential topics for the series will include: transformational organizing; data visualization; strategic campaigning; digital strategies; translating cutting edge environmental scholarship for a public interested in solutions. The student will contribute to shaping the series’ direction.

This student will assist in the development of this workshop or speaker series by contributing to the shaping of the series’ theme, identifying & recruiting speakers and workshop leaders, drafting copy for and conducting advertising to recruit audiences at Yale and externally, coordinating logistics for in-person and online events, and writing and posting articles that capture the takeaways from each event.  Please direct any questions about this opportunity to lisa.fernandez@yale.edu.

Digital Content Editor

This role is largely editorial in nature and requires excellent writing and an understanding of and interest in climate change. The student will:

  • Draft online content including blog posts and other copy for the YPCCC website, 
  • restructure content, usually public reports of new YPCCC research, for different formats including email and the website, 
  • recruit pitches for written pieces relating to YPCCC research findings from students for the YPCCC blog and coordinate, edit and post accepted submissions
  • Have some knowledge of SEO
  • Manage incoming inquiries for YPCCC’s general email account

YPCCC Partnerships Research Assistant (Fall 2023-Spring 2024)

Based at the Yale School of the Environment, we conduct scientific research on public climate change knowledge, attitudes, policy preferences, and behavior, and the underlying psychological, cultural, and political factors that influence them. We also engage the public in climate change science and solutions, in partnership with governments, media organizations, companies, and civil society, and with a daily, national radio program, Yale Climate Connections.

YPCCC’s Partnerships Program grows the capacity of the climate movement to conduct strategic communication campaigns and transformational organizing. The Partnerships Program helps organizations understand audiences, use tactics and tools based on YPCCC’s cutting-edge research, and run experiments to refine strategies. We work with more than 200 groups ranging from environmental justice organizations to foundations. These relationships vary from short consultations to in-depth partnerships in which we help build organization capacity for data-driven campaigns.

Position Focus:

The Partnerships Research Assistant will support outreach and building external relationships for the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication. In this role, the Research Assistant will help conduct market research, develop outreach materials, and message experiment templates in support of the Partnerships program’s work.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Partnerships strategy and outreach to diverse climate organizations, ranging from large institutions to small grassroots groups.
  • Develop outreach and marketing materials for the Partnership program including case studies, presentations, and key messages.
  • Develop tools for partner organizations to run digital and field experiments, such as message test blueprints.
  • Test and deploy new tools for partner organizations.
  • Support tracking our success through the Salesforce Constituent Relationship Management system. 
  • Further develop materials for consulting and training in climate communication strategy, tactics, and tools to improve the communication and engagement capacity of partner organizations and the broader climate change community.
  • With the YPCCC research team, help assess the utility of new YPCCC research products, tools and data.

The Partner Success Assistant ensures the success of our partnerships by planning and coordinating our relationships with partners, keeping track of the progress of partnerships along the engagement pipeline, and ensuring that follow-ups are conducted in a timely fashion. The Partner Success Assistant supports the Partnerships Team in engaging with our partners and ensuring a high-quality experience for them throughout the engagement pipeline – from the introductory call to project planning, and finally to capturing learnings from the project. The Partner Success Assistant stays informed of partner needs and addresses them to ensure that partnerships are progressing smoothly.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Partnerships strategy and outreach to diverse climate organizations, ranging from large institutions to small grassroots groups.
  • Attend partner meetings when possible and keep track of key takeaways and action items.
  • Keep partnerships on track by creating a partner plan, and logging the progress of partnerships into the Salesforce CRM system.
  • Track weekly progress of partnerships to assess partner needs at every stage of the partnership pipeline, identify priority follow-ups and deliverables, and establish project plans and timelines.
  • Coordinate across staff and students to ensure partner success.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen partner relationships.
  • Further develop materials for consulting and training in climate communication strategy, tactics, and tools to improve the communication and engagement capacity of partner organizations and the broader climate change community.

Primary responsibilities (60%): 

  • Support the Partnerships strategy and outreach to diverse climate organizations, ranging from large institutions to small grassroots groups. 
  • Supervise a team of 4-5 student research assistants working on the Partnership Program. This includes facilitating weekly meetings, assigning tasks, reviewing and editing the deliverables of the student team, and ensuring tasks are completed within set timelines.  
  • Ensure overall student team success through project management and team development. 

 Additional responsibilities (40%): 

  • Develop outreach and marketing materials for the Partnership program including case studies, presentations, and key messages. 
  • Develop tools for partner organizations to run digital and field experiments, such as campaign plan blueprints.  
  • Test and deploy new tools for partner organizations. 
  • Support tracking our success through the Constituent Relationship Management system (Salesforce).   
  • Further develop materials for consulting and training in climate communication strategy, tactics, and tools to improve the communication and engagement capacity of partner organizations and the broader climate change community. 
  • With the YPCCC research team, help assess the utility of new YPCCC research products, tools, and data. 

Desired experience: 

  • Experience leading and managing a team, whether volunteer or staff.  
  • Experience in issue or political campaigns, including field and/or digital campaigns. 
  • Experience with online message testing using social media platforms such as Facebook.
